Agility trials are a fantastic way to bond with your dog and challenge them physically and mentally.
The first step is to find a trial near you, which can be done by searching online for agility trials in your area or checking with local dog training clubs.
With a trial in mind, the next step is to prepare your dog for the course, which typically consists of 10-20 obstacles including tunnels, jumps, weave poles, and contact obstacles.
Many dogs find the weave poles particularly challenging, so it's essential to practice this section with your dog regularly.
As you navigate the course with your dog, remember to keep a safe distance and let your dog take the lead, allowing them to decide the pace and direction.

What Are Canine Performance Events?
Canine performance events, also known as agility trials, are a fun and exciting way to challenge your dog's physical and mental abilities.
Agility trials typically involve a dog navigating an obstacle course, which can include tunnels, jumps, weave poles, and contact obstacles like A-frames and dog walks.
The goal of agility trials is to complete the course as quickly and efficiently as possible, while also showcasing the dog's agility and teamwork with their handler.
Dogs of all ages and breeds can participate in agility trials, from puppies to seniors and from small breeds to large ones.
Some agility trials may also include additional challenges, such as complex weave pole patterns or elevated jumps.
Handlers work closely with their dogs to develop a strong partnership and communication skills, which are essential for success in agility trials.
The speed and efficiency of the dog's run are often measured in seconds, with faster times typically earning higher scores.
Canine Performance Events
Canine Performance Events (CPE) is a great organization for dog owners who want to try agility training with their pets. CPE offers titling classes in Agility, where the focus is on having fun while competing for titles.
The basic philosophy of CPE is for the dog and handler to have a great time while competing, which makes it a very beginner-friendly venue. CPE is a very beginner-friendly venue for competition, so it makes it easy for a handler who has never previously competed to become involved in the sport.

CPE currently offers titling classes in Agility, with a variety of classes to choose from, including Jackpot, Fullhouse, Colors, Wildcard, Snooker, and Snooker. Some of these classes are typical sequenced courses, while others are "games" in which the object is to take obstacles and earn as many points as possible.
CPE has a total of 6 levels of competition, making it easy for handlers to advance and challenge themselves. Any handler can start at the beginning and work their way up, which is one of the things I love about CPE.
CPE trials are just plain fun, and the atmosphere is very supportive, with competitors cheering for each other and helping newbies get involved. My experience with CPE competitors is that they are very open to helping the newbie become involved.
