The Wiener Dog Races at Canterbury Park are a unique and entertaining event that's fun for the whole family. The races feature adorable Dachshunds competing in their own special event.

These little dogs are known for their short legs and long bodies, but they're surprisingly fast. In fact, some Wiener Dogs can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

The Wiener Dog Races at Canterbury Park are a beloved tradition, with the first event taking place in 1990. This annual event has been entertaining crowds for over three decades.

Canterbury Park Event

Canterbury Park's 65-day race meet began on May 18 and runs through Sept. 16.

The park announced its July, August, and September promotional calendar featuring popular events like Corgi Dog races, Extreme Day, and the July 3 Fireworks Spectacular.

Capacity limits will be placed on each event to provide the best customer experience, and tickets are expected to sell out for certain events.

Many of the park's promotions will align with Sunday's 1 p.m. Pepsi Family Day race card.

Dogs at Canterbury Park are the main attraction during the summer horse racing season. The event features popular dog races with Corgis, Wiener Dogs, Bulldogs, and Basset Hounds competing.

Registration for the dog races begins on March 23 and continues through May 1. There is no fee to register. A total of 72 dogs will race in heats each of the days with the top 12 of each breed advancing to the Best In Show Finals on September 4.

A lottery will be held to determine the entrants should any of the races be oversubscribed. The dog races have become so popular and really enhance a day of horse racing, exposing many new fans and families to the sport.

Dog owners and their pets compete primarily for fun but also for prizes provided by Canterbury. Entrants chosen to compete will also receive admission passes for the day of the event.

The dog race dates are as follows: Bulldogs on June 5, Basset Hounds on June 26, Corgis on July 31, and Wiener Dogs on August 14. The Best In Show Finals will take place on September 4.

Canterbury Park is bringing back its popular Dog Days of Summer races, featuring corgi, basset, and wiener dog racing. The event will take place on the first Sunday in August.

Each breed of dog will have two days of racing, with a capacity initially limited to 10,000 each day. The fastest dogs of each breed will return for the Best In Show on September 6.

A $2 discount is offered for purchasing tickets in advance online. Dog owners can enter their canine now for the Dog Days of Summer races.

The Weiner Dog Championships will take place on July 4th, featuring six dogs that qualified from previous heats. The event will be part of the 4th of July festivities, which include free hot dogs and a hot dog eating contest.
