Dog shows in Australia are a popular event for dog owners and enthusiasts. The first dog show in Australia was held in 1864 in Sydney.

There are several types of dog shows in Australia, including conformation shows and obedience shows. Conformation shows focus on the physical characteristics of a dog, while obedience shows test a dog's ability to follow commands.

The Kennel Club of Victoria (KCIV) is one of the largest dog show organizations in Australia, hosting over 200 dog shows annually.

The first Dog Show on the mainland of Australia was held in Melbourne, Victoria in 1864. It was conducted by the Council of the Acclimatisation Society and attracted around 1,500 people.

By 1868, Victoria had another Dog Show in the Duke of Edinburgh Theatre with 232 dogs. The National Agricultural Society of Victoria's Show, which pre-dated the Royal Melbourne Show, included dogs by 1872.

Agricultural Societies were forming throughout the State capital cities of Australia by this time. Over the next century, these societies played an important part in the development of Australia's dog scene.

The Australian Fox terrier Club and the Saint Bernard Club were both formed by 1883. The other States began forming Kennel Clubs to hold dog shows, with New South Wales holding its First Annual Show in 1895.

The Queensland Kennel Club held its first Annual Show in 1897, and Western Australia had the Western Australian Kennel Club and was regularly holding dog shows by 1898. The South Australia Poultry and Kennel Club changed its name to include dogs on 1902.

It took until 1959 for the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) to be formed.

The first Australian Dog Show took place in Hobart, Tasmania, in 1862, held by the newly formed Society for the Improvement in the Breed of Dogs. It was a groundbreaking event that showcased a variety of breeds, including Setters, Pointers, and Newfoundlands.

91 dogs entered the show, with exhibitors required to record the breed, sex, age, and colour of their dogs, as well as whether they were bred in the colonies or imported. This level of organization and attention to detail set the stage for the growth of dog shows in Australia.

The show awarded prizes to the owners of the best-bred dogs of both sexes, as well as to whelps under 6 months old, of any distinct variety or breed. The diversity of breeds on display was impressive, with over 10 different breeds represented.
