02/14/2013
On February 14th, 2013, we had the chance to try dog sledding at Monarch Dog Sled Rides. The outfit is run by Caleb Hathaway, who started the business down from Alaska last year.
We met the beautiful dogs before our ride, and I got lots of doggy kisses and love. They were so friendly!
The dogs used for the rides are mostly Alaskan-bred mutts, not Huskies. They were lovingly raised to do what they were born to do – run!
Our musher, Chad, was a great guide during the ride. He explained about the dogs and their life, and we even got to put on a harness or two.
Valentine
On a Valentine's Day, there's no better way to spend time with loved ones than on a dog sled ride. We visited Monarch Dog Sled Rides and had a fantastic experience.
The dogs used for the rides are not Huskies, but rather Alaskan-bred mutts. They're wonderful companions and love to pull the sled.
Before taking the ride, I had a misconception about dog sled rides being bad for the dogs. But, I soon found out how wrong I was - the dogs absolutely love to pull the sled!
Our musher, Chad, was knowledgeable about the dogs and their life. He spends winters with them and summers kayaking white water. He even speaks French!
The dogs are lovingly raised to do what they were born to do - run! Caleb Hathaway, the owner, brought the dogs as puppies from Alaska and had experience training teams for the Iditarod.
We got to meet and pet every one of the beautiful dogs before loading into the sled. They're so friendly and love attention. I even got lots of doggy kisses and love.
Our ride through the winter woods was joyful, with the dogs taking off with ears bobbing, tails bouncing, and tongues flapping. It was a truly unforgettable experience.

Location
Dog sledding monarchs can be found in the Arctic regions of the world.
Monarch dogs are bred specifically for their strength and endurance, allowing them to pull sleds in extreme cold weather conditions.
These regions include Alaska, Canada, and Scandinavia, where the winters are long and harsh.
Monarch dogs are typically trained to run in teams, with a lead dog and several other dogs following behind.
The terrain in these regions is often snowy and icy, making it ideal for dog sledding.
Monarch dogs are well-suited to this environment, with thick coats and strong legs that allow them to navigate the terrain with ease.
