Georgetown University has a long history with Jack the Bulldog. The university adopted the English bulldog as its mascot in 1962.

The bulldog nickname for Georgetown's sports teams was inspired by the tenacious nature of bulldogs, which students argued was a fitting trait for their athletes. A student committee purchased a two-year-old bulldog named Jack, who refused to respond to anything but his given name.

In 1999, a "Bring Jack Back" campaign was launched by seniors, and a new Jack was welcomed to campus in March of that year. Unfortunately, this Jack had to retire in 2003 when his caretaker became president of the University of Scranton.

Jack Sr. was born on May 3, 2003, and arrived at Georgetown on July 19 of the same year. He continued to live on campus after his official mascot duties ended in 2012.

Jack Sr. passed away on June 2, 2015, but his legacy lives on.

Dogs have been human companions for thousands of years, with evidence of dog domestication dating back to around 15,000 years ago.

This Jack, known as the elder, had to retire in 2003 due to his caretaker's new role as president of the University of Scranton.

The current Jack, who arrived on the Hilltop in the fall of 2019, is one of the most recognized figures on campus.

He spends his time celebrating life on the Hilltop and cheering for Hoya sports.
