Scottie dog ornaments are a popular choice for Christmas trees, and for good reason - they bring a touch of Scottish charm to your holiday decor.
Scottie dogs have a rich history in Scotland, dating back to the 16th century when they were bred as small game hunters.
Their distinctive appearance, with their short stature and long, narrow heads, makes them instantly recognizable.
Scottie dog ornaments are often made from ceramic or glass, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes to suit any style or preference.
Scottish Terrier Ornaments
Scottish Terrier ornaments can be a wonderful addition to any holiday decor. They're often available in stores, especially during the holidays.
Scottie dog motif merchandise is abundant during the holidays, and it's not uncommon to see Scottish Highland Terriers featured alongside Scottish plaids. This might be due to the distinctive silhouette of the breed.
Scottish Terrier ornaments can be found in various materials, including glass and leather. A 1900s antique German mercury glass dog ornament features a sitting Scottish Terrier with realistic molded details.
This ornament is over 120 years old and still has a beautiful luster and shiny finish. It would make a nice addition to any figural ornament collection or display.
Scottish Terrier ornaments can also be made of leather, like a black leather ornament made by Ralph Lauren.
Scottie Gifts
Scottie Gifts are a popular choice among fans of the Scottish Terrier breed. They make a thoughtful and unique gift for any occasion.
Over the years, I've received Scottie dog ornaments as gifts, and they've become a cherished part of my holiday decorations. This little guy is made of black leather (Ralph Lauren) and was on the outside of a wrapped Christmas gift from my eldest son.
Handmade Felt
Handmade Felt Ornaments are a beautiful way to celebrate your love for Scottish Terriers. They can be found at local gift boutiques or vintage shops, like the one where our Scottie ornaments were discovered.
These ornaments are made with felt and feature exquisite embroidery, beads, and tiny bells. They're truly a labor of love.
The level of detail and craftsmanship that goes into each handmade ornament is remarkable. It's clear that the makers put their heart and soul into every stitch and thread.
If you're looking for a unique and thoughtful gift, consider a handmade felt ornament. They're a great way to show your love and appreciation for the special Scottish Terriers in your life.
1900s German White Dog Ornament

This 1900s German White Dog Ornament is a stunning example of antique glasswork. It features a sitting Scottish Terrier with realistic molded details, including a deeply molded face and wavy fur.
The ornament measures 4 inches tall to the top of the loop and is in excellent antique condition, free of chips or cracks. It still has a beautiful luster and shiny finish, with strong silvering. This is a testament to the quality of German glasswork from the 1900s.
This particular ornament is a rare find, with a Lauscha style metal cap and a pike that is intact. It's a wonderful addition to any figural ornament collection or display.
As a special note, this ornament is featured in John Lightner's Christmas Rarities book, which is a great resource for collectors.
Trimming the Tree
Trimming the tree with Scottie dog ornaments can be a delightful experience. I like to start by making the bed up with Santa Claus sheets and adding Scottie pillows, blanket, and throws.
A traditional Christmas tree with dark green branches can make Black Scotties decorations hard to see. But a white tree is a great backdrop for them.
I've found that a traditional skirt can be too large for a small tree, so I drape a festive Scottie dog print fabric around its base instead. It adds a nice touch to the tree.
A few holiday boxes depicting Scotties can be placed around the tree for added decoration.
