Ghaziabad has banned the domestication of pit bull, Rottweiler, and Dogo Argentino breeds.

The ban comes after several attacks by pit bulls in Ghaziabad, including an incident where an 11-year-old girl was bitten on the leg by a pit bull in Indirapuram.

A similar order was passed in Panchkula, Haryana, where the municipal corporation banned pit bulls and Rottweilers.

Current owners of these breeds have a two-month window to get their dogs registered, sterilised, vaccinated, and registered.

Owners will not be able to buy new dogs, and existing ones must be properly cared for and registered.

Muzzles are mandatory for public parks and elevators, except in summers, with fewer people around.

Dog owners will also be responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and setting a fixed feeding area for stray dogs, with feeding in front of people's houses prohibited.

The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has approved a proposal banning the domestication of these breeds.

A fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed on non-registered dog owners.

The others that are banned are the Pitbull terrier, the Japanese Tosa, the Fila Brasileiro and the American XL Bully. Owners must have their XL Bullies microchipped, muzzled and kept on a lead in public as part of the new legislation.

Animal rights groups have criticised this ruling, as dogs can be killed simply based on their looks and size, rather than their behaviour.
