Youth Dog Training
Six students from the Swanson Center for Youth will be providing obedience training to four dogs on the journey to adoption through a reinstated program.
The program is a partnership between the Humane Society Adoption Center of Monroe, Delta K-9 Solutions, and the Swanson Center for Youth.
Students went through an interview process to be selected for the initiative, which administrators hope will benefit students and dogs alike.
A fresh viewpoint: Brooklyn Dog Training Center
The students will learn how to take the dogs through basic leash obedience training, and then mentor other students on teaching dogs leash obedience.
The program will provide an excellent opportunity for students to learn both social and leadership skills that will help them reintegrate into society when they leave Swanson.
Students have already built the kennels and the area where the dogs will be staying at the Swanson Center for Youth.
After the training, there will be an adoption at a local pet store, or if someone is interested in one of these second chance kennel dogs prior to that, there can be a meet and greet.
The initiative is great for the humane society, and the community can get involved by adopting a puppy or a shelter dog or making a donation.

Basic Obedience
Basic Obedience is a crucial aspect of dog training, and one of the most important commands to teach your dog is "Come." This command can be a lifesaver, as evidenced by the example of someone frantically searching their neighborhood in a fluorescent green bathrobe because their dog got loose.
Don't let that happen to you. Teaching your dog to "Come" when called can be done in just four weeks, and it's a skill that will serve you well in distracting environments. You'll work through the steps of teaching your dog this crucial command in our Come When Called class.
It's not just about the command itself, but also about being prepared for situations that might arise, like getting out of the house early in the morning. By teaching your dog to "Come", you'll be better equipped to handle unexpected situations and keep your furry friend safe.

Loose Leash Walk
Walking your dog can be a real challenge, especially if they're prone to pulling on the leash. This is where loose leash walking skills come in, and it's a game-changer.
Loose leash walking is not just about getting your dog to walk by your side, it's also about preventing back pain and making walks enjoyable for both you and your dog.
A class focused on loose leash walking can help you achieve calm and collected walks, which is a huge relief for both you and your dog.
Pulling on the leash is a common issue many dog owners face, and it's not just about the dog being excited or energetic.

Come When Called
Walking your dog in the early morning can be a challenge, especially when they make a break for it. It's not uncommon to find yourself yelling in your bathrobe, trying not to wake the neighbors.
Teaching your dog to come when called is a crucial life lesson that can save you from embarrassing moments like these. Our 4-week Come When Called class will help you work through distracting environments and teach your dog to respond to the command.
It's not just about yelling "come" and hoping they listen. By following a structured approach, you can teach your dog to respond reliably, even in the presence of distractions. With practice and patience, you'll be able to enjoy more peaceful and enjoyable walks with your furry friend.

Cooperative Care
Cooperative care is a game-changer for dog owners who want their furry friends to be more relaxed and willing participants in their own care.
This type of training involves teaching your dog to collaborate in their own care, including ear care, nail trims, and body handling.
In a cooperative care class, you'll learn the tools and skills to build behaviors that make these tasks more amiable for your dog.
A unique perspective: Dog Training and Daycare
Dogs attending these classes must be comfortable in a group setting, which is a great way to socialize them with other dogs.
To succeed in a cooperative care class, your dog should be able to lay down, settle on a mat, or hang out in their crate during the instructional part of the class.

Behavior Consulting
Behavior Consulting is a crucial part of our Training Services, as it addresses the underlying emotional responses that drive undesirable behaviors in dogs.
Behavior problems often stem from fear, anxiety, or past trauma, which can be deeply ingrained in a dog's behavioral repertoire.
These issues require behavior change procedures that focus on emotional response, not just skill work like sit, down, stand, or come.
A comprehensive plan should address both the behavior problem and the dog's emotional well-being for a lasting solution.
