If you're a proud owner of an exotic pet, you know how challenging it can be to find the right boarding facility for your unique companion. Many boarding facilities are designed for traditional pets like dogs and cats, but some now cater specifically to exotic animals.

Some exotic animal boarding facilities offer spacious enclosures that mimic the animal's natural habitat, such as a large aviary for birds or a spacious vivarium for reptiles. This can help reduce stress and provide a sense of comfort for your pet.

Reptile boarding facilities, for example, often provide a controlled temperature range and humidity levels to meet the specific needs of your scaly friend. This can be especially important for species that require a certain temperature range to thrive.

Boarding facilities that offer specialized care for exotic animals often have experienced staff who are knowledgeable about the specific needs of your pet.

Accommodations

At our exotic animal boarding facility, we understand that change can be stressful for your pet, so we make sure to provide a comfortable and familiar environment. We have beautiful new cages in the hospital where your pet can stay, or if you prefer, you can bring your pet's own cage as long as it fits in our boarding area.

We encourage you to bring any specific bedding material, food, and toys that your pet prefers, as this can help make them feel more at home. We'll take care of the rest, including cleaning their cages twice a day and maintaining a comfortable temperature.

We also take into account the special needs of our reptile and amphibian guests, providing heated tanks to keep them warm and cozy, and for our mammal and bird visitors, we use supplemental heating and air conditioning as needed.

Accommodations at Our Facility

At our facility, we understand that every pet is unique and deserves a comfortable stay. We have beautiful new cages in the hospital where your pet can stay.

We're happy to accommodate pets that prefer to stay in their own cages, as long as they fit in our boarding area. If you're planning to bring your pet's cage, be sure to check its size with our receptionist when making your reservation.

We ensure that all visiting pets are kept comfortable by cleaning their cages twice a day and maintaining a temperature suitable for all species present. Our reptile and amphibian guests enjoy heated tanks, while our mammal and bird visitors appreciate supplemental heating and air conditioning.

We provide plenty of sunlight during the day through large picture windows and safely tuck them in at night behind blackout shades. This way, your pet can enjoy a peaceful stay while you're away.

Here's a breakdown of our boarding options:

We also offer a discount for birds sharing a cage: $15/night per bird for up to 5 small birds or 2 large birds.

Guest Meals

We encourage you to bring in whatever your pet likes to eat, since most exotic pets have specific likes and dislikes.

We have a large refrigerator that will keep produce fresh, and we have plenty of room to store any pelleted or dry food your pet likes to eat.

We will even shop for fresh veggies and fruit for a nominal fee.

We weigh all boarders daily to make sure everyone is eating well.

We will certainly monitor closely and encourage pets reluctant to eat at the Center.

Types of Exotic Pets

Birds can be boarded in specially designed units that fit their cages, or in new cages provided by the boarding facility. These units are designed to keep birds separate from their neighbors.

Small mammals like rabbits, rodents, and other small exotic mammals can be boarded in their own cages or in new cages made for rabbits or in specially designed "condos." This ensures they have a safe and happy stay.

Reptiles and amphibians have specific heat and light requirements, so it's often best for them to stay in their own cages if possible. If not, the boarding facility has special heat-regulated tanks to accommodate their needs.

Bearded Dragons require a screening for Adenovirus prior to boarding, and owners must provide an appropriate diet and specialized daily care.

Here's a list of the types of exotic pets that can be boarded at this facility:

  • Birds
  • Small mammals (rabbits, rodents, etc.)
  • Reptiles (including Bearded Dragons)
  • Amphibians
  • Kinkajous
  • Large tortoises

Boarding Process

To ensure a smooth boarding process, it's essential to call ahead to reserve a spot for your exotic pet. Holidays and summertime can get busy, so plan accordingly.

You can drop off your pet on Monday-Thursday from 9:00am to 5:30pm, Fridays from 9:00am to 4:30pm, and Saturdays from 9:00am to 12:30pm. Charges for boarding are calculated on a daily basis and run from the day you drop your pet off through and including the day you pick them up.

To make your drop off and pick up easier, consider filling out our downloadable Boarding Care Request Form in advance.

Before Boarding

Before boarding your exotic pet, it's essential to ensure they're healthy enough for a stay with us. To guarantee this, all pets must be examined and tested by our veterinarians within one year prior to their stay.

We'll also accept documentation of testing from another veterinarian, but our team will still do an examination to assess your pet's health. This helps us determine if they're safe to board with other pets.

For birds, except the smallest species like canaries and finches, a blood test within the past year is required. Smaller bird species will need a swab test to rule out common infections.

All birds, rodents, rabbits, ferrets, hedgehogs, mini-pigs, sugar gliders, reptiles, and amphibians must have had a stool examination within the past year to screen for parasites. Ferrets, in particular, must be current on their vaccinations.

Keep in mind that blood and stool testing results can take a few days to come back, so plan your pet's check-up accordingly to ensure we receive the results in time.

The Logistics

To minimize your wait, it's a good idea to call ahead to arrange a drop off and pick up time. This will help ensure that everything runs smoothly.

You can drop off your pet on Monday-Thursday between 9:00am and 5:30pm, or on Fridays between 9:00am and 4:30pm. On Saturdays, you can drop off your pet between 9:00am and 12:30pm.

If you need to pick up your pet on a Sunday, don't worry - the Center will still take care of it. Your pet will be fed, cleaned, and cared for 7 days a week.

If you must board your pet for a prolonged period, you can come for a visit and even get a photo of your pet sent to you via text message. Just be sure to call ahead to arrange a visiting time.

Leave It to Pros

Leaving your exotic pet with a friend or family member can be a complicated issue. Unlike cats and dogs, friends and family are often less inclined to offer their home as a hotel for your exotic pet.

Caring for an exotic pet requires a great level of diligence, especially when you're away from your pet. This is because exotic pets have unique needs and requirements that not everyone is attuned to.

It's not always in your pet's best interest to stay with hosts who may not be fully aware of their needs. This can lead to stress and discomfort for your pet.

Having a professional pet sitter can be a much better option. They have the expertise and knowledge to provide the specialized care your exotic pet needs.

Why Choose Us

We know how much you care about your exotic pet, and that's why we're here to help. Our team has years of experience dealing with unusual pets in a loving and attentive manner.
