Northern California Weimaraner Rescue is a passionate group of volunteers who are solely focused on helping displaced Weimaraners. They are dedicated to finding new homes for Weimaraners in Northern California shelters, strays, and owner surrenders.

Our rescue program is run strictly on a volunteer basis and supported through fundraising and private donations. We do not have kennel facilities nor do we receive financial help from the government.

We use foster homes and when necessary, licensed boarding and training facilities to care for the Weimaraners until they are adopted. Rescues are spayed or neutered and vaccinated before being placed in their new home.

Some of our dogs have special medical needs and need surgery or treatment, which is made possible by donations and fundraising efforts. 100% of donations to NCWR go to care and placement efforts for rescued Weimaraners.

Rescue Process

The rescue process for Weimaraners in California is a complex and time-consuming process. It involves multiple steps and stakeholders to ensure the safe and successful rescue of the dogs.

First, a potential adopter must submit an application to a reputable rescue organization, such as the Weimaraner Club of America Rescue. The organization will review the application and conduct a home visit to ensure the adopter is a good fit for the dog.

Weimaraner rescue organizations in California often work with local shelters and humane societies to identify Weimaraners in need of rescue. These organizations may also reach out to breeders, owners, and other resources to locate Weimaraners that need help.

Once a Weimaraner is identified as a candidate for rescue, the organization will work to transport the dog to a safe location, often a foster home, where it can receive medical attention and socialization.
